Last spring the Queens County Republican Party hosted its first successful candidates’ school with a cadre of distinguished speakers that included elected and party officials, campaign consultants, election lawyers and other campaign experts. Much to our surprise this event drew relatively favorable coverage even from the New York Times! and helped identify prospective talent for the 2008 and 2009 election cycles. Among our key speakers was our own Robert Hornak who serves as Deputy Director of the Republican Minority Leader’s Office of the New York State Assembly, as member of our Queens GOP Executive Committee and as Chair of our Queens GOP Candidate Recruitment and Development Committee. Robert is also past President and Chairman Emeritus of the New York Young Republican Club in Manhattan and has helped organize a Candidate Seminar with a citywide focus on January 23rd 2008. Details are excerpted below. If you know prospective candidates interested in increasing our Republican representation in NYC and Queens in particular we would encourage you to share these details with them. Queens Young Republicans in particular are encouraged to attend.
Note this event is designed for people seriously considering becoming a candidate, not for campaign staff or volunteers. There will be future events organized by the Queens GOP that will include non-candidates. RSVP is required to attend and a questionnaire will need to be completed and submitted before the event.
